Eureka ...
It came to me as I was driving to my all day Advanced Athena Training workshop this morning. At first, the ideas trickled in slowly as I wove in and out of morning traffic, working my way across town. By the time I got to the hotel, my mind was abuzz, swarming with images, characters, and hope. I checked in, got myself a cup of coffee, found a seat at a table alone, and plopped myself down to capture as many images as I could before the workshop started. I think I may have something.
How can I tell? Because through the day the ideas have grown, taken shape and, most importantly, they will not leave me alone. Tonight at karate I sat writing a plot summary, then drawing an outline. No, I don't have a title yet ... and I probably won't until I'm done.
Basically, it's the story of woman who, after losing her father, her job, and her boyfriend, journeys back to a place from her childhood and rebuilds her life. There is a lot more to it but I'm not sure I want to give too much away before I start writing about it. Let's just sat I have a direction and I'm on my way.
I really don't want to get hung up too much on details because a lot of research should go into this and, if I ever finish it, details will have to be retrofitted. Let's face it, in 30 days, I can only do so much. For now, details will only be a distraction. What I really want to focus on is the characters and how they interact. One is a woman who has spent her life following the rules instead of her heart. One is a dying man. One is a childhood friend that turns up in the most unlikely places. THe story could go one of two ways ... I think I'll have to let the energy of the story determine which way it goes.
*whew*
And here I thought I was flying blind.
